The Five of Cups – Disappointment

Disappointment is the combination of disillusionment (the wilted rose) and shattered dreams (broken cups and shells) following unfulfilled expectations that you were highly attached to emotionally. The resultant emptiness (the empty cups) generates anger (which is natural and okay) (shattered glasses and crashing waves), sorrow (overturned cups), fear(closed cups and dark swampy waters), depression and stagnation (moldy old cups). Disappointment is a lesson about learning to live in the present reality rather than in the future dream world. The coming-down-to-earth is symbolized by the earthen-covered jars. Let go of your emotional attachments and recognize a higher cosmic purpose for the way things work out. Accept it. Disappointment is an appointment not met. Let go.
